The Mortal Instruments Series

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

This was a fantastic read! It grabs you instantly and whirls you through a dark shadow world of mystery, murder, monsters, and betrayal. It is a blending of Neverwhere, the Bartimaeus trilogy, and a smattering of Harry Potter plot devices. It's a fast-paced romp through a looking-glass world peopled with demons, faeries, werewolves, and Shadowhunters. Now... don't you want to know what those are? The characters are well-written, and the plot is gripping. I'm starting the sequel immediately.
